Safe Haven

She went where none had gone before, not even his closest friends, she had mentioned his family and with her words his face hardened his posture becoming rigid almost as though he were in pain, a flash of something between rage and sorrow flickered within his eyes but all of the muscles within his face seemed to freeze until he managed by some miracle to snatch himself away from the gruelling grips of mourning.
“Do not speak of my life as though you know a thing of it” he kept his tone light, though the air around them could have been cut with a knife. “Rumours are just that, rumours”
He pushed pictures of his wife and child from his mind just as an image of Ebony arose within it, he couldn't fully hide the anger at the mention of her his nails burrowing into his palms.
“It bothers you? Why would something that has never effected you in the past bother you... you do not know these people to care for them as they don't know to care for you”.

She seemed to spur on with her explanation of her arrival and as she did he watched her through a narrowed gaze, her attempts to use humour and sarcasm were failed upon him in his current move, he almost looked as though he would indeed pump her full of bullets when she came close to him but he didn't, he stepped to the side nodding towards the doorway.
“What you do if your choice. If you step on anyone's toes or endanger a single one of my people we will have much more of a problem when we do now”

Aurora and Colt watched the twelve humans walked obediently in lines entering the room and while Colt salivated with the thought of a free meal he remained where he was in his seat, Allowing Aurora to wander over and take a pick first. Colt’s eyes zeroed in on Ebony and Sebastian, wondering what in the hell she had over the poor sod other than power, finesse and a set of fangs.
“Damn you’ll do fine” Aurora chuckled as she took the hand of a short brunette woman, finding her sweet cherry scent stirred her hunger more so then the others had. She pulled the woman along to a spare chair where she wasted little time in making the woman kneel between her knees, leaning forward and biting into the flesh of her neck.
Drawing his attention away from Ebony since she had zoned out herself, Colt took a walk over to the group, though instead of choosing he inspected each subject as though he was looking for a single strand of hair. He wouldn’t taste from any of them, he would allow Aurora to delight in such pleasures but if both of them ended up in trouble they would be screwed. He hadn’t seen such a display of obedience in a long time and he turned his nose up at the thought of prey who would sit to longingly be fed from. Is this what his race had decided to become? He would never become a vulture.

She leaned against the wall and folded her arms as she seemed to of hit a nerve with Crowe. But his grief turned to anger at the thought of Ebony. It seemed that she had that effect on everybody. She contemplated his question and decided to be honest with him. " I was serious when I said I woke up on the streets one day knowing nothing. The str... the people on the street helped me, cared for me until I could stand on my own two feet. So you could say that it's personal. " she said coolly. She was not used to having to explain herself and be so open about herself and social norms were a bit of a strange notion to her, a majority of her interactions involved killing so this was unknown territory.

Folding her arms she stared at Crowe as he mentioned endangering his people. " Look if I wanted a meal there were easier catches in the city and I don't intend on shooting anyone. " she kept the fact that if anyone should attempt to point a gun at her or attack her that she would have no issue putting a bullet between their eyes without asking any questions. " They respect me, I respect them, I believe that's how it works right? "

Ebony feasted from the young olive skinned man she referred to as Sebastian. It was a few moments before she retracted her fangs from him, then allowing him to sink into the lounger to recover from the blood loss, her hand almost affectionately started playing with his hair only she seemed otherwise incapable of such emotion.

She looked at Aurora who was like a giddy child at Christmas as she picked one of the younger girls. Her lips curled into a smirk turning her attention to Colt. " Your friend has surprisingly good taste. " she said seemingly impressed. and approving the girls taste.

She however was curious as to why Colt was so reluctant to feed. " Are they not to your liking? I can have more sent up if you like or have you just lost your appetite. " The girl was behaving as she had expected but it made her uneasy when she couldn't read and control a situation and Colt was becoming an unpredictable factor.

As he listened to her his eyes watched her face very close taking in every tick, every blink of her eyes he was used to having to spot a lie and for all the faults he could find in what she had said he could not find a lie upon her face. He sighed his fingers tangling through his hair as he ran them from front to back before relaxing them down to his sides again.
He would have to let her get involved with his army to see what she knew and to find out what she could offer to help them he just had to pray in silence that she was not a double agent, if she were he would kill her but so far all she had done was help.
"It doesn't work like that down here, you will be treated without trust you will be the outsider and you will get respect when you earn it" he warned her, "That goes for all new comers maybe more so with you"

Aurora’s eyes glistened as she looked up and flicked her gaze between both Colt and Ebony, She knew Colt was doing something but she was far too relaxed to care, enjoying the taste offered up by the woman kneeling in front of her. She could see how easy things would be having a trove of mortals to feed from and the rumours surrounding Ebony being in such control were now clearly true.

“Frankly I find them lacking” Colt announced with disdain, as he casually glanced over the shoulder of one of the mortals, letting his claw like nails scrap down the neck of a blonde woman who looked to be at least in her thirties. The sharp edge of keratin tore into the fleshy layer of epidermis, the woman still not moving as the sudden release of blood from the small tear became visible.

“Take for example this specimen. She is in her prime, on the cusp and yet as her scent fills the air she is deficient…of all the sense and emotion our beings are deprived of. And you expect our kind to find these snacks a delight?” Colt spoke almost scolding towards Ebony. He used the soft edge of his thumb to smear the blood across the woman’s shoulder as he strode off, stepping out from behind the row of mortals with a showing smirk

“You must be ever so bored stuck up here in your ivory tower with such ‘boiled’ food”

In response to the smirk he frowned, none of this sit well with him and he knew it would take a lot for him to trust her. Yes she had saved him but she hadn't been forthcoming with him about what she was.
Sighing he let her out moving out of the door way resigning himself to escorting her back through to the food hall.

"Just keep your head down for a while and hopefully you will be able to earn some respect or at least tolerance from the others" he held the eyes of all they passed, some nodding to him in greeting, or murmuring his name while some others frowned at him obviously not happy with him letting her loses, those he stared down until they moved on making it clear he wouldn't be challenged on it.
"You better not make me regret this" he grumbled holding the door to the food hall open for her.
